Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE)
Moving a car chassis around a factory with space constraints
Williams Advanced Engineering is a technology company based in Oxfordshire, UK, responsible for various innovations in the automotive, defence, retail, mining and sports science industries, including car power systems.
Perhaps best known for their association with Formula 1 racing, Williams has spent years producing supercars. Nowadays, they support many other automotive brands like Porsche to perfect their highly advanced vehicles, fitting their car’s powertrains. Rather than linking multiple pieces of expensive componentry underneath the chassis, they assemble the powertrain parts beforehand and fit the Porsche chassis over the top. It’s a tricky enough job already working with costly, highly-technical components, and made even more so by manually moving the heavy car chassis from place to place.
Williams was looking for a solution to simplify the process of moving each car chassis around their facility, ready for installation. They required a tow tug that could pull a Go Jack – a device on wheels used to jack up the car’s chassis from its tires – taking the chassis safely to its next destination. Due to space constraints, a small footprint was essential – yet so was the pulling power!
Our team attended Williams’ site to demonstrate the V-Move XL from Verhagen Leiden. A mid-range electric towing unit, its compact size makes it simple to store and manoeuvre, while a generous towing capacity allows for easy push or pull of loads weighing up to 3,500kg. It has a trailer hitch and interchangeable tow ball and pin, which customers can switch for an electric or hydraulic coupling to suit the application. Lots more optional extras, including stabilisers, handlebars and solid tires, helping customers to tailor the unit to their precise needs.
After seeing the V-Move XL tow tug in action, the team from Williams made an immediate purchase. Before shipping the unit to our customer, we fitted handlebars, stabiliser wheels for more support when driving, and an industrial pin for quicker and easier attachment to the Go Jack device.
Williams has yet to ask us to service their V-Move XL unit. We are confident this hard-working, mid-range electric tow tug continues to support the team at Williams to complete their installations efficiently with minimal risk of damage to car parts or their staff.
