Coleman Milne, based in Bolton, is a leader in the design and production of high-end funeral vehicles, including the UK’s first zero-emission hearse and limousine range.

To produce a hearse, the company converts a standard car by stripping its body parts and cutting away the vehicle’s rear end, then extending the chassis and adding a custom-built rear frame. It’s a tricky process which involves several people to move the car and its various parts – most of them extremely heavy – around the factory floor. Not only tricky because of the weight but risky too, with the slightest damage to a car part rendering it useless or, worse, a danger to the finished vehicle. Workers must take optimum care at all stages of this highly demanding process.
