Freshwater Lifeboats
Freshwater Lifeboats is an independent, RNLI-approved lifeboat station on the Isle of Wight.
Around 150,000 people live on the island, yet the tourists visiting each year stretches into the millions, many coming to enjoy the water-based activities on offer. Suffice to say the volunteers working the Freshwater lifeboat must stay alert all year round, ready to launch the lifeboat and show their support during an emergency. The lifeboat weighs several thousand kilos and takes three people to transport to its launch point – a tiring and risky job for all involved.
As such, the team at Freshwater wanted to buy a towing device to help them move the boat quickly between its store and the slipway, minimising the health and safety risk it posed to the crew. A standard trailer hitch and interchangeable tow ball and pin hook easily for most applications, with an optional hydraulic coupling for larger or more cumbersome loads. A compact unit, it manoeuvres even the tightest spaces – great when working in small stores and workshops – and takes up little room when not in use. Since receiving their tow tug, the lifeboat crew have found moving their rescue vessel to and from its launch ramp much easier, making each job much more straightforward and safer to complete.
