The Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) works on behalf of the government Department for Transport, responsible for approving new and imported vehicle categories and safety for over 40 years. The organisation has four sites situated in Bristol (UK Headquarters), Bedford, Leatherhead and Nuneaton.
Alongside regular passenger vehicles, the agency assesses thousands of trailers each year to ensure they are fit for use on Britain’s roads and highways. Customers bring a trailer to the testing facility where the VCA then runs tests to approve the trailer for use. With an average trailer weighing close to 1000kgs, manual towing is discouraged to prevent injury, which had left the agency searching for a tow tug to move trailers around the site that supported workers’ wellbeing.
The VCA contacted our team for support, who recommended the Verhagen Leiden V-Move XL-HD tow tug unit to the customer. Battery-powered, it comes with a 5,000kg towing capacity giving it sufficient scope to manage heavy loads repeatedly. Adjustable speed up to 6km per hour allows the staff onsite to move trailers quickly and proceed to the next job, saving time in their day. It is simple to manoeuvre, minimising accidents and injuries – which gives peace of mind to management.
Due to the excessive weights to be towed, the unit was fitted with a reinforced axle and electric hitch to give the unit’s tow ball hitch point more flexibility. Our team also provided stabilisers wheels for additional support when moving heavier trailers.
The VCA has had the unit for almost two years without any complaints. It continues to work effectively and has increased efficiency onsite, reducing ongoing costs. That’s another happy customer pleased with our solution and service.
