Middlesbrough Football Club, based in North Yorkshire, is a long-standing English football club currently playing in the UK’s Championship League.
Thousands of fans turn up weekly to cheer on their team, the ‘mighty Boro’. Of course, hosting a top-flight football team requires exceptional facilities, starting with the pitch. Grounds staff at the Riverside Stadium spend an incredible amount of time working on the grass, keeping it in the premium-quality condition expected at this level of elite sport. All kinds of equipment help them achieve such high standards, including a huge watering system to help the grass grow. Yet, with several parts to it (and all cumbersome), the system was proving too difficult to move manually on and off the pitch – and in desperation, the team turned to their bench for a sub!
The club asked Industar to provide a device to pull the watering system around the ground more easily. As well as having the capability to pull a weighty item, it was imperative the solution didn’t cause damage to the turf, therefore the wheels had to be a certain type and weight to ensure this didn’t happen. Our team positioned the V-Move XL electric tow tug from market leaders, Verhagen Leiden.

Our initial demo to the customer proved just how critical it was to have the correct tires fitted, with the standard fit damaging the test turf. Instead, we attached air-filled tires perfect for the real pitch, pulling the watering system into place easily and without ripping the turf.
